Ethanol, a renewable fuel, has been blended in gasoline in the U.S for over 40 years, helping improve air quality, reduce carbon and vehicle emissions and removing the carbon equivalent of 12 million cars from the road each year.

Now, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has decided to increase Mexico’s negligible production of ethanol, partly to prove the country’s struggling sugarcane farmers with a new source of income. Basing on this strategy In November this year US Agriculture Minister Brooke Rollins has discussed with the Mexican Minister Luz Elena Gonzáles Escobar opportunities for cooperation in the biofuels area in order to strengthen energy security and the sustainable development of both countries. The US is the world’s largest producer of ethanol and is said to make ethanol as important in the US energy strategy like LNG at present time.

US multistate pipeline carrying carbon dioxide to be buried for ever

A multi-state carbon capture 392-mile pipeline, owned by Tallgrass Energy, began operating in September this year, reducing emissions from 11 Midwest ethanol plants and carrying that carbon dioxide gas to be forever buried underground in Wyoming, 9,000 feet underground. It is an achievement after years of complaints, lawsuits and legislation blocked similar efforts by other companies. The pipeline, aiming to decarbonize biofuels and support regional energy innovation with significant landowner agreements and community benefits.
