The New Zealand Government has a goal of a clean, green, carbon-neutral economy by 2050 and has a range of policies to support the transition to a low-emissions economy. These include setting an aspirational target of having 100 percent of electricity generation sourced from renewables by 2035. Further developing a national vision for hydrogen focused on the potential of green hydrogen to reduce emissions, outlining a 10-year Resource Strategy, supporting emerging technology. Concerning oil and gas the New Zealand Government will prohibit the granting of new offshore oil and gas exploration permits and passing legislation to commit New Zealand to zero carbon by 2050 or sooner.
